About the event

Join us on the sacred Nikini Full Moon Poya day for a special one-day retreat dedicated to cultivating mindfulness and virtue through meditation (Bhaˉvanaˉ) and the observance of moral precepts (Sıˉla).


This retreat offers a unique opportunity to deepen your practice in a supportive community setting. The day will be guided by the venerable Bhante Kurunegoda Dhammaloka, Head Monk of the Hudson Valley Buddhist Vihara and a certified Yoga instructor. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced meditator, this program is designed to bring peace and clarity to your mind.

Date: Sunday, August 24, 2025 Time: 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM (The day will begin with the formal observance of precepts (Sila Samādanaya) at 8:30 AM for those who wish to participate). Location: New Dorp Moravian Church (Parish Hall), 2205 Richmond Rd, Staten Island, NY 10306





Program Schedule:


  • 8:30 AM: Observing of Precepts (SıˉlaSamaˉdanaya)

  • 9:00 AM: Morning Meditation Session

  • 11:00 AM: Lunch Break

  • 12:30 PM: Afternoon Meditation Session

  • 2:30 PM: Short Break

  • 2:45 PM: Evening Meditation Session

  • 4:00 PM: Conclusion of Sila observance & Buddha Puja

  • 4:30 PM: End of Program


Lunch & Donations:


Lunch will be served by the organizers. The retreat is free of charge, but volunteer donations are gratefully welcomed to help cover the costs.


Sponsorship Opportunities:


For devotees who wish to acquire special merit, there are opportunities to sponsor the noon meal (daˉna), refreshments (gilanpasa), or the offering of requisites for the venerable teacher. If you are interested, please contact the organizers.
